Matt LaBerge is a composer, conductor, performer, and educator based in Portland, Maine, whose work in the performing arts has seen him connect with hundreds of thousands of people all over the world. Throughout his varied career, he has won or been nominated for several major awards through leading arts organizations, including the American Prize, the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF), and the Richard Maltby Jr. Award for Musical Theater Excellence.

As a composer, Matt writes in a wide variety of musical styles and genres, mainly focusing on the human voice. His choral works have been performed by choirs throughout the United States and internationally, ranging from school performances and community events to state and regional festivals. His musical theater compositions and arrangements have been seen and heard in theaters and concert halls all around the country, anywhere from university productions to national tours. Matt spent four summers as both the Resident Composer and Music Director for The Big Maine Event, a fundraising concert which brought local Maine performers together with theater professionals from across the country. He composed and orchestrated the opening number and theme song, "Let's Bring Broadway to Maine", a production number inspired by the Golden Age of musical theater which has now been performed by many Broadway veterans, such as Tony Award winner Trent Kowalik, original cast members from the Broadway productions of Billy Elliot The Musical, Fun Home, Mary Poppins, NBC’s The Sound of Music Live!, and more.

In 2015, Matt was selected to participate in the prestigious Palomar Film Music Workshop where he studied with and scored various multimedia scenes under the guidance of world-renowned film, television, and video game composers, including Academy Award nominee and Emmy winner Larry Groupé (Commander in Chief, The Contender, Straw Dogs), Emmy winner Roger Neill (King of the Hill, Mozart in the Jungle, CBS's Mom), and BAFTA winner Garry Schyman (the Bioshock series, Dante's Inferno, Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor).

As a conductor and music director, Matt has worked all over in regional productions from Maine to New Mexico for some of the nation's leading theater organizations, including many productions for the Ogunquit Playhouse, Maine State Music Theatre, and Four Corners Musical Theatre Company. A huge fan of the holiday season, Matt has music directed two different theatrical versions of Charles Dickens' beloved story, A Christmas Carol, both of which received national touring productions, and one of which he composed additional music for and played the role of Bob Cratchit.

As a singer/actor, Matt is well known for his energetic performances and rich bass-baritone voice, performing with organizations such as the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Ogunquit Playhouse, Maine State Music Theatre, Perseverance Productions National Tours, Portland Ovations, Opera Maine, Casco Bay Wind Symphony, as well as his self-proclaimed "musical home", the Portland Symphony Orchestra (PSO).

Since 2016, Matt's work with the Portland Symphony Orchestra has seen him teach, direct, perform for, and connect with tens of thousands of people annually through his time as a featured guest artist on Pops and Classical Concerts, as Narrator of School and Family Programs, and as Director of the PSO Children's Chorus. Starting in 2025, Matt officially joined the PSO staff as the Education Program Coordinator, continuing all of the previously mentioned work he's been doing for nearly a decade and so much more. In addition to his work with the PSO, Matt maintains a constant presence in public education as the Chorus Teacher at Scarborough Middle School, where he has over 150 students in grades 6-8 chorus. Matt holds a B.A. in Music and a B.M. in Music Education from the Osher School of Music at the University of Southern Maine.
